In thinking about what to write/share today, my thoughts focus on today being Monday the beginning of a work week that is different from a year ago and yet also different from a month ago for me. What is the difference? I am no longer on a work schedule of someone else’s making and I have added blog writing weekly! This is a truly liberating thought when I think about being an educator as a professional who spent from September 1986 through July 2013 in schools buildings. “Monday”, as an educator meant making sure that I had plans for the week. Whether I was a teacher, instructional coach or principal, planning was a large part of working in the school communities I had the privilege of serving. It also meant keeping track of what was accomplished and what still needed to be done. With the addition of blog writing, I have made a commitment to give “Glory to God” in a greater public view.
Although moving from NYC to North Carolina supporting principals as a School Transformation Coach and then a few years later as a director as well as an instructor in a principal preparation program at a university provided me with the opportunity to experience a bit more input into my work schedule, I was still not prepared for the freedom in scheduling that I have now. I am able to schedule my doctor’s appointments and other things that I want to do with such flexibility because I am not scheduling around work meetings or events that in my mind I just can’t miss. No matter how much people say, “Family comes first,” if you have a mindset and a work ethic that makes you rearrange your life to accommodate those “work events”, that is exactly what you will do. The reality of it all is prioritizing: #1 – God, #2 – Family and #3 – Work. Guess what? If you follow this order particularly having God first, you will have your answers about what you should do and when to do it. Does that mean that sometimes #3 comes in before #2 absolutely, but not all or most of the time. You may also find that you and your family may benefit as well (2 Chronicles 31:21).
So what is next? With of course help from the Lord, I have made the decision (for now) to post on Mondays. This will create a “work” schedule that will get my week started as well as hopefully share some insights as a woman of faith whose journey is (what I hope to be) a deeper and even closer relationship with the God. I will always end with scripture that is aligned to my shared thoughts so that readers will have God’s word to reflect on in their own life. While I grew up reading and referring to the King James Version of the Bible, I will use scripture from the New King James Version. Hopefully, if I do this correctly, you will also have access to the link BibleHub.com which provides the verse in other translations. If you are like me, when I read scripture in a version that is other than my preferred one, I will look it up in the King James Version. As a “creature of habit”, I hope this will be an added convenience for those of you who like to “check out” the scripture in the version of your choice.
