Choices & Decisions

I can remember early on in life there were always choices that led to making decisions. The choices may have been more controlled by my mother such as selecting school clothes from a pre-selected group of dresses or what I wanted to do, again, from a list of activities that were already decided upon as well as pre-approved. I am grateful that attending Sunday school was not negotiable or a choice in my formative years. Little did I know back then that Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go, And he will not depart from it.“, holds so true for me today.

The practice of making decisions from choices along with being raised knowing that I have a Heavenly Father as well as an introduction to the many biblical stories, first, as a child enabled me to carry Jesus in my heart throughout my life. This rearing also allows me to bear witness to the FACT that I believe, trust and serve an AWESOME God. Reflecting on my days that exposed me to what the world contains (notice I didn’t say has to offer) really makes me appreciate the upbringing “in the way he should go”. Have I made mistakes along the way? Absolutely! Will I make more? No doubt, however, being wiser and older with various experiences with the Lord always at my side, I pray that the ratio of mistakes made to not making mistakes will decrease.

This thought leads me to one of the choices that I made years ago regarding including exercise in my adult life, particularly once I was diagnosed as a diabetic. The saying, “You are what you eat.”, did not just come out of the blue. Yes, now a days there are so many reports that come out to tell you what is unhealthy and if you do further research you may find other reports which provide information that states just the opposite. I do monitor what I eat as well as have incorporated exercise into my week. I enjoy “working out” 6-7 days a week doing a 20 minute strength and cardio workout for seniors. Yes, with just that change I have seen weight loss and lower blood sugar levels as well as my A1C’s have dropped. Had I engaged in exercise routinely thirty years ago, I would be in much better health which of course is obvious. Even more so, had my spiritual journey stayed steady in faith, my walk with the Lord would be even deeper as well as closer. The good news is, it’s not too late. While exercise is important to my physical health, godliness covers it all! So when you are about to make a decision or choose from choices that are available reflect on this verse:

Scripture: 1 Timothy 4:8

For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.
