Spring into Spring!

Yesterday, marked the first day of Spring in 2022 on a beautiful, calm Sunday. For me, as a Baptist, Sunday is notably the Lord’s Day of praise, thanksgiving and rest. Not that the other days of the week those actions are not taken – it’s just that on the Sabbath we attend church service with fellow Christians and do not perform any type of work. The weather where I live in North Carolina was chilly at about 63 degrees, but in the sun, nice and toasty. Housework was completed on Saturday including changing the winter decorations in our home for the bright, light colors of spring. The outside symbols of spring will just have to wait until this week; however, there are no sign of winter flags or other wintery seasonal items since I made sure to get them away before the designated first day of springtime! So on Sunday, we (my husband and I) could safely enjoy part of the day with worship and fellowship in our church (Hallelujah!) and return to the comfort of our home with it’s springtime makeover.

After a light lunch, I chose to start reading a book on the Trinity in my backyard. Talk about serenity and peace through God’s grace. Having lived in congested areas of Brooklyn (Bedford Stuyvesant, Bushwick & Flatbush), New York most of my years, this solitude of my choosing is indeed a blessing from God. Being able to “Spring into Spring” on such a lovely day also being much aware of the Trinity in my life (God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit) as well as their individual significance makes me full of joy and contentment which reminds me of Paul’s wise words, “Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content:” (Philippians 4:11 NKJV).

His words are sometimes hard to do. Let’s think about what they really mean if you can accomplish this mindset. Simply, you will always have joy regardless of what is going on in your life. Does this mean that there will not be troubles, challenges and trials? Of course not, but when they come you will know who you can trust and believe and most of all call on to see you through. It is interesting how we, and I do me WE, worry. What does it get us? Where does it get us? From experience, ulcers, high blood pressure, headaches just to name a few effects to our health. Where?, the doctor’s office, clinic or a stay at the hospital. This is particularly the season when we should stop and think about the price that Jesus Christ, the Kings of Kings and Lords of Lords has paid for everyone of us so that we don’t have to worry. This debt that has been paid in full allows, encourages and means we can be content no matter what the situation. If you need a verse to help you reach that joy that is inside of you as well as call on the Lord read:

Scripture: Psalm 51:12

Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.
