“The Greatest Love of All”

Thinking about Valentine’s Day this year has been very different for me in such a wonderful way! I am still married and God willing hope to celebrate 25 years in September 2026 with my husband giving God the glory for our meeting, loving and living throughout this time. But more importantly there is the understanding that while I love George, he is not the “greatest love of all” for me nor I for him – Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior is!

This is why I can happily share that after so long especially prior to God sending me my husband (at 39 and married at 40 years of age), I am no longer pondering, wishing or anticipating what Valentine’s Day will be like for me. Undoubtedly, on Valentine’s Day, the news will share and compare the estimated $27.5 billion dollars (spent in 2025) with the approximate figure for 2026 which will top that just for the mere fact that everything has gone up in cost and once again the focus on how to show one’s love will go beyond what really matters about what one does when they truly love another. The good news is that my thoughts are not on the worldly day of love, but on God’s love that is available 24/7, 365 days a year which ultimately is “The Greatest Love of All”!

God’s word tells us in James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” When we think about love we think about goodness, therefore we should recognize, appreciate, praise and thank the Lord for all He has done and will continue to do in our lives.

Am I telling you not to give any thought to Valentine’s Day? On the contrary, God has given us explicit instructions about loving, one another, https://biblehub.com/john/15-12.htm, however, it is not just about 1 day a year. No, it is an every moment of everyday and everyone kind of love which should be natural for as long as we have breath. John 15:13, clearly informs us that, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” So, candy, stuffed animals, flowers or dinner is not in this league of love that God wants us to have for each other. This is God’s kinda love – the “Greatest love of All”! Let’s not forget – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son…” this verse says it all about what was done for love.

So with this I am indeed content in the fact that there will be no cards, candy, flowers or fancy dinner. In fact, my husband and I will be attending a vow renewal celebration that is just the perfect gift from God not only for the couple celebrating 50+ years of marriage, but also for those who will be a witness to “What God has joined together, let no man separate.”

Wishing you all the kind of love that God gives so freely today, tomorrow and forever!

Grace & Peace,

Brenda
